WHAT ARE DOMIES?

Domies are statues that honour and represent your House Spirits. Domies can be inhabited by your House Spirit.

WHAT ARE HOUSE SPIRITS?

There are House Spirits in every dwelling, sometimes even multiple. House spirits can be known as Hearth Spirits, House Ghosts, House Deities, Brownies, Hobs and Slavic Domowyk/Domovoy (where the name Domies comes from). House Spirits protect their home and the occupants of the home. They have their own unique personalities and can have some expectations of those who they share the house with – If you look after the house and show them respect, they’ll watch over and protect you.

HOW DO YOU TREAT YOUR DOMIE WELL?

Give them a special place in your house
Tell them when major things are happening in the house and family
Show them and the house respect
And most of all, they love little gifts and offerings.

WHAT GIFTS OR OFFERINGS DO DOMIES LIKE?

Offerings from the four elements:

Earth – rocks, crystals, pine cones, flowers, coins, horns/bone
Air – incense, feathers, bells,
Fire – candles, incense, volcanic stones
Water – shells, rainwater/moonwater in a bowl, driftwood

They also are partial to offerings of oats, cream and wine.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

You can give your Domie a name. They’d like that.
If your House Spirit approves, you’ll know.
If they don’t, you’ll know that too.
You can even ask your House Spirit what they’d like to be called.
Take a moment, sit somewhere you feel drawn to in your house,
close your eyes and ask it’s name. What name is the first to pop into your head? Try it out and see if it fits.

ORIGINAL PRANKSTERS

Do you hear footsteps in parts of the house you know is empty?
Do your keys and socks go missing all the time?
Do you find things have been moved? Cupboard doors or drawers opened when you knew they were shut?
This could be your House Spirit. They can be little tricksters who like to play pranks.
If the tricks are getting a little too much – ask them to slow down and give them a little offering to appease them.
